The Commercial International Bank (CIB) Egypt has achieved a new global milestone, ranking second in the mid-sized banks category in Forbes’ 2026 list of the World’s Best Banks, published in partnership with Statista.
CIB secured the second spot among banks with assets ranging from $20 billion to $50 billion, in a ranking led by SoFi.
The final list featured 500 banks from 89 countries worldwide.
This inaugural 2026 edition of the ranking is based on objective financial data collected from major providers such as S&P Capital IQ, along with desk research and information submitted by banks themselves.
This approach differentiates it from previous Forbes “World’s Best Banks” lists, which were primarily based on customer satisfaction surveys.
Forbes categorized banks into six asset-size groups, from global banks with more than $500 billion in assets to small banks with assets between $3 billion and $10 billion.
Institutions were assessed across four key areas: profitability, earnings growth and quality, capital and funding resilience, and asset quality and efficiency.
The profitability pillar carried a 30% weight and measured return on average assets, cost-to-income ratio, and net interest margin.
Earnings growth and quality accounted for 20%, focusing on profit growth, stability, and customer deposit growth over three years.
Capital and funding resilience also represented 25%, evaluating capital strength and funding structure.
Asset quality and efficiency made up the remaining 25%, with emphasis on credit quality and risk management.
Forbes requires participating banks to be licensed deposit-taking institutions that provide financing to individuals and businesses, hold more than $3 billion in assets, and publish audited financial statements for the latest year as well as at least three consecutive years of financial data.
The magazine also noted that companies do not pay to be included in its rankings.
